The Cadillac ELR was a really good-looking car.

I’ve always liked it. I think it will be a relatively desirable future vehicle.

Looks were never the ELR’s problem. The problem was combining the drivetrain of a practicality-first car like the Chevy Volt with the impractical body of a personal luxury coupe, and charging a whole lot more than the Volt.

Getting a lambo vibe from it

It had a nice interior, but I never warmed up to the exterior. The proportions always seemed way, way off. Scrunched up hood, high cowl, front wheels pushed way back under the A-pillar, side crease that ends abruptly at the leading edge of the door, ass sticking up in the air.

From this angle. Other angles it was a little awkward. Not ugly. Just a little off

This hot take is so hot it gave me three consecutive heat strokes.

Also, ehhhhhhhh. The only thing that redeems the styling is that it’s reminiscent of the ‘02 Cadillac Cien concept.

Kinja'd!!!

The ones I’ve seen in person had the 7 spoke chrome wheels. The one in the picture looks nice because of the wheels, but most don’t look like that one as far as I’m concerned.

This would have been a hit at 50 thousand, not the 70 that they wanted for it.

agree - beautiful arts/science styling. It needed a lot more go - like Tesla go.

This is a good take. A prime DD. Well the upgraded 2016 only.

I agree. That was one of the admittedly few thigns it had going for it.

I’d buy one used for under $30,000, but anyone who bought one new for more than $40,000 is crazy.

It was a fantastic looking car, and I hope depreciation hits them hard before I’m ready to replace my Volt. They just didn’t have enough of a difference to justify the massive price jump over the volt.

It only cost too much because it had a crest and not four rings,BMW roundel, or Mercedes-benz logo. Because they are perfect and can do no wrong. Hell even kompressors sold in volume.

I still kinda want one. Only in black. And the first thing I’d have to do is black out all the chrome BS.

I’ve never found any Cadillac to be a good looking vehicle. They’re all too... flamboyant in all the wrong ways. They remind me of the cars Stephen King describes in his novels. The ones driven by the Can-toi, or the Low Men, who are agents of the Crimson King (the biggest bad guy in much of King’s work, especially the Dark Tower series, and all the Dark Tower adjacent books).

I saw a test mule car, then I think I’ve seen two, ever, and that is in SF.

Except you could get a 2016 for $50k new, and it still didn’t sell.

Keep in mind that GM legitimately thought that a Cruze-based FWD coupe with a twist beam could be a legitimate competitor to the Tesla Model S, when it’s not even a legitimate competitor to the Model 3 . (Yes, I know, the Model 3 wasn’t anywhere near out yet, but still.)

When it came out, if you really wanted the Voltec powertrain, you’d just buy a Volt (even though it was tuned for less power) for far less, and green cars transcend class anyway, usually, so you won’t look poor for driving a Volt. If you wanted a luxury hybrid, you’d probably buy Lexus.

You know that gives me an idea of a retromod: 80s Cavalier Coupe or Convertible modified to be a Cimarron, complete with a 3.8L Supercharged or LS4 swap.
